Martha Wash, the glorious bombastic voice behind many of the 90s triumphant dance anthems, including C&C Music Factory’s Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now!), Black Box’s Strike It Up, and her own Give It Up,  Carry On, and It’s Raining Men (The Sequel) with RuPaul, is featured on Bishop Yvette Flunder’s We Won’t Be Silent Anymore.

Wash tears down the walls of the church on He’ll Understand and Say Well Done. I was only able to get a snippet, but it is phenomenal. If you’re a fan of Afro-American gospel music, the type that has bodacious black women swinging on chandeliers across the church, you shouldn’t miss this. (Will try to get a full copy of this for you, but meanwhile, you’ll just have to deal with this, or listen to a two-minute version on CDBaby.)

Mike’s Apartment is a savvy Filipino band that makes soulful music called Romansa Espesyal (”special romance,” loosely translated, whatever rocks their boat). Their first single off their debut album Lover’s Quarrel is a slow jam of a track called Nagdedeliryo. Nagdedeliryo is a sizzling slow track that would never find its way onto GannsDeen.com were it not for the fact that Nagdedeliryo is irresistible musical brain candy. Light years ahead of typical Pinoy music, nothing on local radio like it.

New Contemporary Christian artist Britt Nicole has released her debut single, You, off Sparrow Records. Now rushing up all Christian charts, including Hot Christian Songs (top 10 now), Radio & Records Christian CHR National Airplay (Top 10), and R&R Christian AC Airplay (Top 15).

When Britt wrote You, she had about 75 songs finished, but no song that was serving as a first single. She was concerned about what to put out first, because she knew people would label her by what they heard. You was that high-energy song with a message. Producer Tedd T (All by Avalon) helped her with the lyrics and chorus, and Cindy Morgan, an acclaimed Christian songwriter in her own right, helped them finish it. You is a song about returning to one’s first love - God.

Solid vocal support and an earnest delivery make this revival of Anyway a career-making move, resulting in an Anyway that is, in my opinion, better than McBride’s original.
