Watch the video of Shirley Bassey’s ‘Get This Party Started’

OHMIGOSH.

Dame Shirley Bassey, she of the epic Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever songs from the James Bond movies, has done the unimaginable: she’s revived a dance song and made it cooler than the original! Stamping her classy high heels all over the original Get This Party Started by Pink, Dame Shirley injects sexiness and camp into this Linda Perry-written club chestnut.

Dame Shirley Bassey’s Get This Party Started single dropped July 16 in the UK, and should make its chart appearance by next week. Hope the Brits liked it - this revival of Get This Party Started deserves to go gold! Platinum! Wouldn’t it be awesome if the nine-week run of Rihanna’s Umbrella were ended by a woman twice her age?

Guilty Pleasure VOTW: David Crowder*Band’s “Foreverandever Etc.”

Christian rock group David Crowder*Band’s “Foreverandever Etc.” was released last year, but is only starting to sizzle at modern rock radio. This inventive, highly amusing video accompanies this radio-friendly single involving animated versions of each band member up against angry squirrels.

Isn’t it fun?

Guilty Pleasure VOTW: Love in the First Degree

[youtube="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE3Q9CGrvrk"]

Bananarama’s Love in the First Degree! CLASSIC!

The big hair! The cheesy prisoners! The ridiculous dancers! The weird dance moves!

Sure, they’re big in the UK again, but Bananarama was the most fun when they worked with Stock, Aitkin, and Waterman. Venus may have been their biggest pop hit in the USA and elsewhere, but this little synthesizer-driven bangle (Whoops! That’s another band, for another Guilty Please VOTW) was my favorite Bananarama track.

Enjoy!

Guilty Pleasure VOTW: Believe It Or Not (Theme from ‘Greatest American Hero’)

Back in 1981, an obscure singer named Joey Scarbury had a #2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song titled Believe It or Not, which was the theme to a mildly successful television show titled Greatest American Hero.

Here, for your viewing pleasure - or horror, depending on how you look at it - is the original video! I hope y’all can keep a straight face while looking at the girls with their 80s makeup and bored expressions, the godawful fashions, and the grainy video. *sigh* It brings me back to the day! Enjoy!

Guilty Pleasure VOTW: Red High Heels

[youtube="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs7czuOodcM"]

I can’t help it. Presenting this week’s guilty pleasure, Red High Heels by… are you ready… Kellie Pickler!

Her debut album, Small-Town Girl, entered the Billboard Country Albums chart at #1. Take that, Faith Hill. Lost the Best Female Vocalist of the Year award at the CMAs to Carrie Underwood, and now the latest country femme from the Idol juggernaut debuts at #1 while Butterflies couldn’t manage to debut at the top.
