American Idol Season 4 and Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood’s sophomore album, Carnival Ride, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated releases of 2007. The carrier single off Carnival Ride is titled So Small, and was serviced to country radio less than 24 hours ago. So Small, a country power ballad co-written by Carrie Underwood, will no doubt help Carrie Underwood set country airwaves on fire once again.

So Small is the first Carrie Underwood single in which she shares a writing credit. In an interview with Beville Darden of AOL Music, she says So Small is about how “people invest so much of their time and energy into things that aren’t really important, and you don’t really realize that until it’s too late.”

So Small currently stands at #11 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, #98 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. It debuted at #14 on the Canadian Hot 100, her best debut ever on that chart. You can now download So Small on I-Tunes; purchasing the So Small single today will help raise its Hot 100 rank as early as two weeks from now. (Once again, thanks, Berg.)

SO SMALL Lyrics
Carrie Underwood

What you got if you ain’t got love?
The kind that you just wanna give away
It’s okay to open up
Go ahead and let the light shine through

I know it’s hard on a rainy day
You wanna shut the world out and just be left alone
But don’t run out on your faith

Coz sometimes that mountain you’ve been climbing is just a grain of sand
And what you’ve been out there searching for forever is in your hand
When you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else seem so small

It’s so easy to get lost inside
A problem that seems so big at the time
is like a river that’s so wide
It swallows you whole
Why you sitting around thinking about what you can’t change
and worrying about all the wrong things
And time’s flying by
Moving so fast
You’d better make it count
Coz you can’t get it back

Coz sometimes that mountain you’ve been climbing is just a grain of sand
And what you’ve been out there searching for forever is in your hand
When you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else seem so small

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Sometimes that mountain you’ve been climbing is just a grain of sand
And what you’ve been out there searching for forever is in your hand
Oh and when you figure out love is all that matters after all
It sure makes everything else
Oh, it sure makes everything else seem so small

The post before mine is a little, well a lot wrong. She won Idol a while ago. She’s pretty much settled into country. It’s a safe bet that country fans will indeed launch this song.

The lyrics may be weak if you haven’t climbed that mountain or crossed that river when you didn’t have the strength to do it on your own…great job for Carrie…once again.

Beautiful, tender, but powerful lyrics. You are wise beyond your years, Carrie. God has blessed you with an amazing voice and a beauty that comes from within - you shine - like a true star. We love you.

I heard this song on the radio last night for the first time and I knew exactly who it was singing. I love Carrie’s voice and this song has powerful lyrics. My boyfriend (of three years) and I just broke up and this song definitely made me cry because I’m emotional and because the song has a lot of truth to it. Great song Carrie, keep them coming :)!

  26. Byilly August 13th, 2007 6:22 am

Carrie is amazing. I think she may be settled in country music, but I love her for Idol, not for the country music. She can sing anything so I wouldn’t be shocked if her new cd included something other than country. On Idol, she did prove she can sing anything, and I think she is capable of singing some things that are different from country. I LOVE YOU CARRIE she is better than Kelly Clarkson by miles and she will definitely succeed in everything.

  27. MGR August 13th, 2007 4:03 pm

Don’t like anything Carrie does. It all sounds the same to me.

  28. BJS August 13th, 2007 4:20 pm

Something about this song gives me chills when I hear it. Beautifully sung; definitely a CMT and/or Grammy winner.

  29. Joan August 14th, 2007 2:55 pm

I’ve listened to her new song over and over again. I love the lyrics. Can really relate to the song. Her voice is even more amazing. She keeps growing as an artist.

What a beautiful song. This will be her greatest hit.

  34. Amanda August 16th, 2007 2:00 pm

I have fallen in love with Carrie’s voice. She has talent that I wish that I’d have. She had the courage to go to American Idol and sing with her soul. Everyone is telling me that I need to go onto AI and wi, but I just don’t have the courage to. I know I have talent but Carrie makes anyonw look like a fool when it comes to singing your heart out. I love Carrie and I love the songs she sings. God Bless you girl! I just wish I would get the chance to meet you.. Keep up the soul girl.

  35. richie August 17th, 2007 3:16 pm

Absolutely amazing. If she thinks she can use the same tactics to earn her 2nd Grammy then shes right cuz once again she is gonna prove to the world why she IS an American Idol.

  36. Lisa August 20th, 2007 3:46 pm

Thanks so much for providing this awesome site! I especially appreciate the lyrics. While I was listening to Carrie’s single “So Small,” I noticed a couple of minor differences in the lyrics, so I thought I would mention them:

    The second verse should say
“You wanna shut the world out and just be LEFT alone”

    The second verse should say
“A problem that seems so big AT THE TIME”

Again, thank you for providing this site!

  37. Lisa August 20th, 2007 3:48 pm

Oops! I meant to write the THIRD verse should say
“A problem that seems so big AT THE TIME”

  38. Heather August 21st, 2007 7:38 pm

  44. Keith September 12th, 2007 9:05 pm

wow, I love the melody of this song. Carrie is awesome. The lyrics have been done to death though.I dont know if she wrote the song or what, but I’m getting tired of hearing “climb that mountain” and “It lies in your hands” and “loves all that matters”. Hey… wait a minute..loves all that matters?…. I should write that down, good title for a new song.

  45. Shelby September 14th, 2007 2:38 pm

Carries new single makes me think about all the time that I waste thinking about things that really don’t matter. I cried the first time I heard it thinking that that song was written for me. Much luck to Carrie You are in a good spot!

  46. Cherie September 15th, 2007 12:56 pm
